By Steve Bourie In 2006 the American Casino Guide began conducting a poll among its readers to determine their favorite casinos in various areas of the U.S. While many areas had different winners from year-to-year, the Gulf Coast area of Mississippi consistently had the same winner all four years - Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi - and once you’ve made a visit to this gem of the south it’s quite easy to understand their enthusiasm.
With a total of 1,740 rooms, including 95 suites, Beau Rivage is the largest resort in the southeast to receive AAA’s prestigious Four Diamond Award. All rooms feature a contemporary interior design with cherry-wood furniture, original artwork, 32-inch LCD flat-screen TVs, and great views of the Mississippi Gulf or the Back Bay. All beds have double pillow-top mattresses and all bathrooms have Grecian marble floors, a soaking tub and a separate shower stall. Room specials on the Beau Rivage web site begin at a very reasonable $79 and the resort also offers air/hotel packages for guests to fly in from anywhere in the country.
If you’ve ever been to the Bellagio Resort and Casino in Las Vegas you may have a sense of deja vu when you first walk into the Beau’s casino. Both properties are owned by MGM MIRAGE and they share a similar ambiance of luxury. The Beau’s 85,000-square-foot casino features 93 table games, 2,100 slot machines, 230 video poker games and a 16-table poker room. MGM MIRAGE Players Club members can use their cards at the casino and earn cashback or comps that can be redeemed at the Beau or any of the other 11 MGM MIRAGE properties. For “high-rollers” there is also a separate salon functioning as a ‘casino within a casino’ that includes 10 blackjack tables and an interchangeable table for roulette or baccarat; a high-limit slot room with 100 machines; an exclusive buffet and bar lounge; dedicated cashier services; private restrooms and round-the-clock concierge service. King, The Beach Boys, Olivia Newton-John, Michael Bolton and Wayne Newton. Dining options include BR Prime – Beau Rivage’s signature steak and seafood restaurant; Jia – Contemporary Asian cuisine including a variety of soups, salads, noodles and regional specialties from Thailand, Japan, China, Vietnam and Hong Kong; Memphis Q Smokehouse & Barbeque – Hot barbeque, house-smoked chicken, fried delta catfish and Southern desserts; The Buffet – A wide variety of cuisines, specialty foods and Southern favorites; Coast – Pub-style appetizers, hamburgers, brick-oven pizzas and entrees; and the Terrace Café – Classic American appetizers, entrees, sandwiches, salads and desserts. Adjacent to the hotel lobby is a collection of 10 retail boutiques offering a collection of merchandise such as fine jewelry, menswear, women’s fashionwear and accessories, cosmetics, children’s apparel, plus there’s a popular bargain boutique where all items are priced at $10. Another unique feature of Beau Rivage is its 20,000-square-foot Spa and Salon where guests can enjoy personalized treatments ranging from wraps and therapeutic massages to facials or even eyelash extensions. There are 14 massage rooms; four facial rooms; two private pedicure rooms; one deluxe group pedicure room, that can accommodate up to five guests at one time; five manicure stations; five stylist stations; three make-up stations; a workout facility; and separate vanity areas for men and women featuring steam, sauna and whirlpool amenities.
