Greetings!
The recent movie "21",
which was based on the true life adventures of a very
successful card counting team made up of MIT students, was a box office
hit. However, did it accurately portray what it's really like to
be on a blackjack card counting team?
To get the answer I interviewed Tommy Hyland for
the August podcast. Tommy has been the
mastermind behind some of the country's greatest card
counting teams for more than 20 years and it's very intertesting to
hear what he has to say about the movie and his overall thoughts on the
business of card counting.
In our "Casino
Profile" section we take a look at the Hollywood Casino
in Tunica, Mississippi and for our monthly gaming article I take a look
into the past when I interviewed Rich Marino, slot manager at the
Luxor Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
By the way, we have a new discussion board on
our site. It's the most advanced discussion board available and it has
lots of great features. See below for more details.
We hope you enjoy these articles and we thank
you for your interest in the American Casino Guide!
Sincerely,
Steve Bourie

Interview
with a Slot Manager
by Steve Bourie
In all of the years that I have written about casino
gambling there is one interview that stood out in my mind as being
the most candid.
For the 1999 edition of the American Casino Guide I
interviewed Rich Marino, director of slot operations at the Luxor
Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
Marino gave very frank answers to all of my
questions about how slot machines work and how he decides where to put
them in the casino. He also addressed many common slot
questions, such as: "are the highest-paying slot machines placed
near the doors?"
The
interview may be old, but his answers as to how the machines work
and where they are placed within a casino are still very valid and they
give you insight into an area that is usually not open to the
public.
