In June 1993 Indiana became the sixth state to legalize riverboat gambling. All of the state’s riverboat casinos offer dockside gambling and, unless otherwise noted, are open 24 hours and admission is free to all casinos. Following is information from the Indiana Gaming Commission regarding average slot payout percentages for the one-year period from July 1, 2006 through June 30, 2007:
These figures reflect the average percentage returned by each casino for all of their electronic machines including slot machines, video poker, video keno, etc. Unless otherwise noted, all casinos offer: blackjack, craps, roulette, slots, video poker, video keno and Caribbean stud poker. Optional games include: baccarat (B), mini-baccarat (MB), poker (P), pai gow poker (PGP), three card poker (TCP), four card poker (FCP), Spanish 21 (S21), big 6 wheel (B6) and let it ride (LIR). The minimum gambling age is 21. In April 2007, the Indiana state legislature authorized the state’s two horse tracks to have up to 2,000 electronic gaming machines. It is expected that Indiana Downs will have their machines in operation by early 2008, followed by Hoosier Downs in mid-2008. It is strongly suggested that you call ahead before visiting these tracks to make sure that the machines are in operation. If you want to order a drink while playing, be aware that Indiana gaming regulations do not allow casinos to provide free alcoholic beverages.
