Hollywood Casino at Penn National: It's a casion, folks!

We have been there several times-first time there my husband hit for $900 on a penny machine!! Just two weeks ago he hit for $600 also on a penny machine! I hit the same night for $200 on a penny machine-walked off with half of it-hit on another penny machine for $270-went to a two cent machine and hit $150 more-walked out with $350.

Spent about $250 of my own money. Like every casino everywhere (and we have played all over the country) it just depends on what was hit before you started playing that machine and how much that machine has already paid out that day. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out, people.

it sounds like poor losers to me. When you walk into any casino you are risking losing some money. How much you lose depends on your own discipline and gambling addiction. I can truly say HOLLYWOOD has always been a fun place to visit. I frequented AC and Charlestown for 10 years, you get nowhere. The personal service out of all those casinos combined is less than you get at hollywood. I have always enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere when visiting, so lighten up you nah sayers you asked for casinos in PA. now put your money where your mouths were. I would love to visit more often but, I work 72 hours a week so I just make the most on my visits. THANKS HOLLYWOOD I will keep sending the positive people your way

" I LOST! " echoes throughout this place. I have been to this casino too many times to agree this is a place without any chance of winning. The high dollar room is always empty, that's a big clue. The casino floor restaurants close way too early and the pickings are slim. Try the Sands!

Hollywood Casino at Penn National: big disappointment

After being to vegas and atlantic city this place is a joke. 99% of the slot machines, regardless of denomination are 30 line 10 credit per line machines. There aren't very many straight machines with a max credit of three. So even at a nickel machine, you think nickels ill be able to sit here for a bit and pull the reel. Well 30 nickels a line on 10 lines is 15 bucks a spin. All the machines are like that. Vegas and Atlantic city spinner machines spin the wheel on a spin coming up on any reel. But at hollywood, you need all three. Secondly, the payouts are terrible. I don't expect to win on slot machines. Mathematically speaking your supposed to lose your money. But I do expect to be able to sit there for more than 5 minutes when I drop 50 bucks into a quarter machine.............

Secondly there are no table games. The stupid computerized black jack and three card poker is no different than video poker. There is no real randomness. And i guarantee you the odds on live table blackjack are better than the stupid video blackjack. I stood and watched it for half hour. Couldnt tell you how many times i saw the "dealer" bang out a twenty on a single hit to beat a pair of player 19's. The customer service was terrible. The security guards and cleaning guys were the only ones doing thier jobs.

I sat at the same machine pumping money into it for over two hours. Not one time did I see a coctail waitress, not once. So I went upstairs to the sports bar to buy a drink. Rum and coke 5 bucks. Thats reasonable price compared to any bar I go to. But all i tasted was coke. It was as watered down as if a cocktail watress gave it to me for free sitting at a machine in vegas. So i got another one after tipping the tender 2 bucks. Same thing, tipped him another 2 bucks, ordered a third. I bought and drank three rum and cokes, tipped him enough for a fourth, and didnt even taste rum.

Only pleasant thing about this place is the horse racing. Its geniuenly enjoyable to watch them run, and fun to bet a little bit on them.

If you like horse racing then go and watch the horses. But if you want to gamble go anywhere but hollywood. If it takes you more than an hour to get there, you might as well drive the extra time to atlantic city.

We have been to Hollywood Casino several times and I am very lucky there. However, compared to Charles Town, the help is less friendly and the smell of smoke is pervasive regardless of the area you are in(smoking or non). The food at the SkyBar is much better than the buffet but the drive is not pleasant because of the heavy truck traffic on Rt.81. Go on weekday mornings or afternoons because they have half as many slots as Charles Town and you will have a better chance of playing your favorite machines. The player's clubs for PA and WV are a joke compared to Atlantic City, where for the same money spent I get a room, food credits, slot play and a show!

Hollywood Casino is a WOW place...there is no doubt about it. Entertainment draws a great crowd, young and old! They could be better with pay outs....especially since February, no one is really hitting anything substantial, at least not me! I think they are trying to meet their quota for the quarter, so they are taking all of our $$$ right now!

Their action card is improving with some comps for food and gift purchases, but this just started in April...yet, it is nothing like comps given on the same day as other casinos....doesn't matter how much you plug into the machines, at other casinos we all get 'something' everytime we play!

I have won a little at times, but the casino is getting it all back since February! The help around the casino is wonderful...great people, especially a person named Rick...he is a keeper for the casino! Works extremely hard, keeping the area clean, friendly to us. Once I was so sick, he got me a drink of water without me even asking.

Food needs to improve greatly, and its' too, too expensive! I usually visit three times a month...but slacked off since I am going to my 'dream place' Vegas in a few days.

All in all, compared to other nearby casinos...Hollywood is the best..plus you can take a break and bet on the horses...cheap night out....$2 on a horse! (9 races at $2.00 =$20 bucks for the night! I bet on a trifecta and won....$300, nice way to start out the night! No 'real' tables, but those will come soon!

I have been to Delaware, A.C., and a few other Pa. casinos. Hollywood is by far my favorite. How can some people who rate this place base it on a one time experience? You are not going to win every time and if you think you are, you need to quit. I honestly have found the payout to be fair. I have won more than I have lost and I frequent the place. It truly is a nice design, it's a nice easy circle around the place and the slot carousells are not in huge lines like in other places. Over all I give it a 5. I can't rate the table games because I don't play them but they are always full! Go watch the horses and then play inside and never ever go on a Friday night or weekend! ;) It's packed!

Hollywood Casino at Penn National: Smoking section means-smoking section

I have been to this casino at least once a month since it opened...some days were lucky, some days were not so lucky....that's what games of chance are. But the complaints I hear about the smoking in this casino are getting out of hand.

When you sit down to play a machine in the smoking section, you really do not have the right to sit there and piss and moan about the guy sitting next to you "chain-smoking". That is his perogative.

If you really protest the smell that much...go find a machine in the non-smoking section. Less than 1/4 of this casino is for smokers, the other 3/4 is for people who choose not to smoke...good for you!...stay in YOUR quarter.

The reason people smoke while they gamble is to help with concentration, and they really don't need a disruptive, disgruntled person sitting beside them and just making their night of fun miserable..suck it up and move if you don't like the smell.

I have had two trips recently, and both times I came home with $300 more than I went with. The food is not that great, but the atmosphere is the best I have been at in the past year. I believe the payouts are much better than their facility in Charlestown, WV. The action credits they give are more than other casinos of the same type in either PA or WV. I will definately take my money here from now on until PA decides to allow a casino closer to where I live.

After driving 3 hours to Hollywood and losing money right off the bat was not pleasant at all. I feel if the State would lower their percentage take and the casino allow more paybacks to the players it would be a huge plus in making a day outing more pleasant. Where's the money to the state going anyway??? Haven't seen anything change in Pennsylvania that benefits the public. Someone in Harrisburg pocketing the money???

Security Guards, waitresses and other personnel were very helpful and pleasant. Atmosphere is somewhat pleasant but traffic pattern throughout is just awful. The designer should return part of his/her fee.

Directional signs overhead hard to find, the lettering is small and blends into the color of the background. Very bad design. Guess they don't want people to know where to find places. Good thing they have security personnel at the entrances to direct a person.
Buffet was excellent... $13 per person for lunch a bit high, great selection of main dishes and great salad selection, best thing in the casino, except for the desserts, ther were awful tasting and stale.

Garage parking during the week is excellent, but heard the weekends are horrendous.
