Four of us, ages late 70's and an 88 yr. old, traveled by bus from Columbus, Oh to Wheeling with the idea of a fun time away from home. We have been there many times before. We were greeted by the Wheeling Casino greeter on the bus advising us that we would receive a $5.00 food coupon, (Buffet $5.95 for Monday) and that $20.00 (usually $15.00 given in cash) would be credited to our Player's card and we would need a PIN #, which we gave @ the Player's Card window. We were given an instruction card to use at the slot machines. No info given as to where we put in the PIN #, however I finally found it and then could not get it to work, so an employee came to help and then $20.00 was entered to be used in place of my cash.

Found out that you could not cash out and move to another machine if you were not having any luck. Any winnings could be cashed out but not the money that Wheeling gave you. All of the people in my party had to be helped in entering the PIN # and the amount of money to use in the machine. One lady forgot to use $10.00 and so that was lost as it cannot be carried to another day just like the coupons that come in the brochures. The buffet line was so long that we were over an hour and half getting into the buffet.

The food in the buffet is not what it used to be. The best buffet I have ever had has been @ the Argosy (now the Hollywood). Food good and lots of choices. The wait in the Player's card line was over a half hour. All of these changes took all of the enjoyment out of our day "away". Will we go back, that is debatable. Slots do not pay well, a few credits help to keep you playing, very few and far between. Ohio government officials wake up and get some casinos in OHIO. You need our money and we will find some place to gamble.

Wheeling Island Racetrack & Gaming Center: Lost Money Found - Not returned

June 21, 2009 I visited the Wheeling casino and won a small bit of money, $379.00 and change to be exact. I redeemed this amount at one of the machines available. By mistake, I took the change but left the cash in the machine which was picked up by the next person and turned in to security.

The security person, whom I will not name, called at 6:45 the 21st of June and informed me the money was turned in and I would receive it the next week. As of today, July 14, 2009 the money has not been returned to me. There were several names given to me concerning the return of the money, I have called them, left messages and no one has ever returned my calls. I want my money, but it seems as if I have been cheated and will never get it. Don't go to this casino and lose anything.

Wheeling Island Racetrack & Gaming Center: HARASSED BY THE CLEANING CREW

I visited last Sunday (May 3). Prior to leaving, about 1:30 am, I entered the ladies rest room near the high-limit area and went into a stall. Suddenly there was someone banging on the door, screeching at me about how she was getting ready to clean that stall. I said I would be out in a minute. Went out, no one else in the restroom. As I was washing my hands the lady came back into the restroom and started bitching about me using the restroom.

I pointed out that I did not see anyone else in the restroom when I entered and she was not in there when I came out. She keep shreaking so I walked out and went to the cage to speak to a manager. I got a cleaning crew manager who spoke with me then she spoke with her. I told the cleaning crew manager I expected an apology and when we approached her, she told both of us she was NOT apologizing. Spoke with a security manager who apologized and said she'd forward this on to someone else, I've called the casino 3 days trying to reach the casino manager, she never returns my call, sent her a fax, still no response. DO NOT VISIT THIS CASINO IF YOU HAVE ANY EXPECTATION OF CUSTOMER SERVICE. I'll go to Mountaineer or Detroit before I spend another dime here.

My husband & I have had some good luck with winning at Wheeling. Had a few loses, also had a great host. Played for points to win a trip to Harrah’s in Las Vegas. My host called me March 2, 2009 and told me that i won the trip and $1,000. She said she would get all information on the trip and let us know something the following Friday.

We went down that Friday and she knew nothing. We went the following week and she still knew nothing. (we also went on a Monday the first time to collect my $1,000 and a gentleman said i would have to go through my host.) I can understand that, so we said ok. But after three more times and my host knows nothing or the specifics about the trip to Harrah's.

First she says we have a year to take the trip. i won the $1,000. I told her that I would like to put that in a CD to gain some interest. She could give me a yes or no. Then she starts to say that we would get the money when I take the trip, but she still would have to check on it and all reservations with Harrah’s.

i played with my money to get these points.......lots of money.......i could have taken 5 trips and saveed lots of money......I think I have been conned into this just so Wheeling had players lose there money...this girl will not back down....my husband and I think that they gave this trip for one person only, just for me to say no I won’t take the trip if it is only for one person. (that way they can give that trip to one of their friends or family members) I won the trip & money and i want my money.

That $1,000 is a drop in the bucket for what we spend there and their machines are tough to hit. Something just isn’t right here. My host told me last week that she would get back to me this week and let me know something ...once again....today is friday the 20th ...2009....1:00pm and I have not heard anything from her as of yet. I give her one week from today and i will go public with this!

It will be televisesd on channel 4 and channel 2 news. Now don't you think this host would know all the specifics on this trip before they give the trip away? And other places give away a trip for two, not just one. Wheeling is jerking me around.

If I can walk away with the amount of money I went in with I am still a winner. Anytime you gamble you always take a risk of losing. Rooms are comfortable. Love the buffet.

Went here in September and had a blast. Wolf Run slots was great, I won $200 and my wife won $300. Played 18 nickels in a new slot machine and won $250. Couldn't wait to go back.

Well, we went back in October with $700 and lasted about 4 and 1/2 hours. Did not hit anything.

I think the casino is really neat looking with the waterfall and all. I can't judge this too well yet, but on the October visit it was the worst casino I was ever inside.

Atlantic City is still 7 hours away, so we have to go to these sub-level West Virginia and PA casinos. Probably should just save up and go to AC a couple times a year.

Wheeling Island Racetrack & Gaming Center: I had a good time!

This was my third trip there. My first two were good, but this most recent one was the best trip yet.

Went there last night (9/27/08). I played a marathon blackjack session for 8 hours. Got a buffet comped and a breakfast comped. The buffet was really good - food was very tasty, but the mashed potatoes were a little loose.

After leaving the tables, I decided to throw 20 into the slot machines. In 2 minutes, I was up $15, which was gas money for me to and from the casino. I left a happy man. Great service from the pit bosses and from the wait staff. Disappointing that you have to pay for drinks at the tables, though - but $3.50 isn't outrageous for a beer.

I look forward to going back.
