Went to the casino last weekend with a buddy to play poker! the poker room is the nicest part of the casino...the slots were the tightest I HAVE EVER seen...no one winning, the table games were busy, but no one winning there either.

The hotel is not finished yet...so it is not a resort, nor do they comp rooms...we stayed nearby...at $129 a night...no comps, we dropped a few thousand there...and the food buffet was too high priced $22.95, for what? We went to Cracker Barrel for better food.

This casino is one of the worst pay-out casinos in America...save your time and money and go elsewhere for gaming fun!

Tri-State Racetrack & Gaming Center: Intimidating environment

Not a fun place to game. Fear and intimidation is the management technique toward both employees and patrons. Rank and file employees are friendly and courteous but are obviously uncomfortable.

A case I witnessed was a patron who was accused of being paid $1,500 on a "no bet" which was in fact a good bet. They were told that they had to pay it back or leave. They paid it and were told to leave anyway. OBSCENE.

Greed is the driving force behind this casino. They use any idea they may concoct to underpay their employees and reduce both benefits and payroll. I would NEVER PLAY here. Eat maybe, but not play.

Tri-State Racetrack & Gaming Center: Far From Being a Resort

Tri-State is now calling itself "Tri-State Casino and Resort" ....what a joke. This place is so far from being a "resort" that whoever made this name change better learn what a "real resort" looks like and how it treats is customers.

My husband and I use to frequent this casino at least twice a month for several years and we ENJOYED playing during those years. You could have fun gambling...not necessarily winning...but you at least could play on the money that you put in the machines and it was good entertainment, and that's just what it should be...entertainment. This is not the case any longer!!

The slot machines do nothing but "take" your money and you get absolutely nothing in return. You don't even win a few games to play on for a while. We're not looking for a "windfall" we just look for "playing time" and unless you are constantly feeding the machines with $20 one after another, you won't play long because the machines don't hit anything that gives you games to play on for a short while. You would have the same results at the end of the night, if you just walked in the door and handed one of the casino employees all your money and then turned around and walked out...you would have just as much fun either way!! The Players Advantage Card Program is such a joke.....how much money do you have to spend in order to earn enough points to buy a Coke or Hotdog?? The food we've had is good but let's talk about the price!?! And then there's the drinks from the bar.....a 6 oz. plastic cup used to make a drink that you are charged $5 to $6 for.(or more depending on the drink)....don't you think at this price you could at least get a drink equal to the same size that you get in any other bar or restaurant in town for this price?? What makes everything at this place so much better and so much more expensive?? The money being raked in on the TIGHT slot machines should be enough to cover the cost of alcohol plus much more....but still the casino keeps on taking and taking.

The new "non-smoking" rules is not what's killing this casino, it's obviously the management and the underlying "greed" that is obviously the "mission statement" for this place. Both my husband and I smoke and we had absolutely no problem taking a break and going outside to smoke when we needed. As a matter of fact it was better to take a break and get away from the slots to get a smoke....because it probably saved us about $500 or more because we weren't inside feeding the machines during this time.

We frequent other casinos (mostly in the Southern states) on a regular basis and I have to tell you the "casino atmosphere" at Tri-State is that of "doom and gloom". There are no happy, smiling faces (even in the employees) and there is no sense of excitement on the casino floor. Everyone just appears to be like zombies, staring at slot machine screens hoping for something to "hit" so they can be excited about something. Just a few years ago the casino was filled with excitement, happy people, slot machines with "lights flashing and bells sounding", hand-pays, employees that truly seemed like they enjoyed their jobs, like the customers and would get excited for the customers if they hit a jackpot. During those days this place was a FUN place to be and that's why we came so often.

This last visit we made will probably be our last.....neither of us enjoy gambling at this facility any longer. We like gambling in a fun and exciting atmosphere and we like having at least a "chance" to see a slot machine hit a jackpot either small or big....and the last 4 visits we've made here has shown us that the "chance" or "odds" of hitting anything at all is a "slim to nothing chance that it's going to happen"!!

Good luck to all those who don't have the ability to travel else where to gamble....you would be better off saving your money and spending some of it on "travel" to another casino, preferably outside of WV, where you will find that your "chances and odds" are a whole lot better of hitting a jackpot or at least making your money last longer when you gamble.

Tri-State Racetrack & Gaming Center: Not Bad

My wife and I stopped in over the 4th of July. The casino was not too busy, but it was busy where we wanted to play.

There were only 2 roulette wheels, and they were packed with a lot of regulars. We finally got on one and we were cramped and quit playing after only 20 minutes because it took too long for the dealer to pay out and/or rake in chips from all the players. (I don't fully blame the dealer as some of the players were betting $30+ per spin on single numbers).

In the "low rollers" area of the blackjack pit I saw 4 or 5 tables, but they had a poor payout of 6-5 on blackjack, so we did not play. In the same area there were other player vs. the dealer poker games (I don't remember the specific ones).

There is a "high rollers" table games area, and the blackjack pays better, but I didn't walk through it. It looked less busy than the other area.

As for the slots, my wife said they were ok at best. There were very few video poker machines, and there were lines to get on them (I'm not kidding, people were forming lines on the floor itself for them).

The poker room is nice. There are numerous tables for numerous games, and they had tourneys running as well. Texas Hold 'em, Omaha, were running for sure. As for the players, they were average. I did see an older gentleman get up from an Omaha table with over $5,000 in chips. The hold 'em players were mixed, some reckless and come conservative.

The rewards card is good in my opinion as you get points for everything. (Some casinos won't do that). We played for 4 hours and made over $5.00 in food rewards, and that was from playing minimums.

The casino/racetrack is in the process of building a hotel, and according to some of the guests and dealers, once it opens, the whole place will be open 24/7. If you want to stay close to the casino, there are 2 hotels (Comfort Inn and Sleep Inn) that are very close and offer "casino packages". Check out their website for the hotel info.

Tri-State Racetrack & Gaming Center: Maybe the worst

I don't know if it is fair for me to comment due to my actually being employed at this casino. However, I feel obligated to give my opinion based upon patron input.

The slots are the tightest of anywhere I have been and the people who have commented to me say the same thing. Table games are OK to great for the most part due to dealers, floor supervisors and the pit managers. The best chance at winning are the table games. Players club has very good hosts but have little to offer for comps. Food at the top floor restaurants are progressively better as you go from short order to full service. No hotel yet but local MOTELS cooperate for comping or discounts. Employment environment is aggressively hostile toward employees with a drastic turnover rate, poor benefits and poor pay.

Tri-State Racetrack & Gaming Center: Not Great, But Not Awful!

I have made the 3 hour drive twice to try my luck at the table games and live poker. First trip I won on tables and lost on Poker. Next trip it was the opposite. Both trips were losers, but I did enjoy the visit and chalk the losses up to being too eager to play, not having been in a casino for quite awhile.

I'm not a slot player so I really cannot comment. The BJ tables have a lousy 6-5 payout on double deck, but they do have 3-2 with the shoes. I go midweek and they usually only have one Craps table open so it can be hard to get a spot, especially on a hot table. Roulette was fun and I actually played longer then I thought I would and came out a winner.

Live poker is always fun and plenty of offerings. On my last trip I had just changed tables from 1-2 limit to no limit when they hit the bad beat jackpot which was over $99,000. A couple hours later they hit the jackpot on the Omaha table. I think the bad beat jackpots is one of the reasons the poker room stays busy.

The food is not bad and prices at the cafe aren't bad. The restaurant prices seem high for what it is, but I haven't eaten there so cannot really comment. They do have specials on different nights which seem good.

Now for the number one negative in my opinion about this casino: WHO EVER HEARD OF HAVING TO PAY FOR DRINKS WHILE GAMBLING IN A CASINO!!!???? It's just crazy! The waitresses are very nice and never leave you waiting for a drink, but it just irks me to be sitting there losing hundreds and have to fork out $1.50 for a bottled water, or $5 for a mixed drink!

Overall, I will be back, probably on a monthly basis.

Tri-State Racetrack & Gaming Center: Not the best experience

Had not been to a casino in a few years, and this was a first visit for us. The slot machines are very tight, with none found that would just allow you to have a good time and spend your money.

Example, in Shreveport, La., you could play for up to 10 hrs on one machine without losing your backside. To me that was worth my money. Not this place. Would like to know who gets the 80% to 95% on the payouts.

The table games were a little friendlier, depending on your dealer. The customer service was welcoming except for one lady that I asked a question, and she about snapped my head off, and there were no other customers around, so it wasn't like she was busy.

So if you visit, make sure you know someone to give you the tour. Regarding the player's club, your points are rationed tightly, just like the slot machines.

We only live a few hours away, so may go back for the dog racing, but will steer clear of the casino. Also had never been in a casino that you had to buy your drinks, if you wrere spending bucks. But the diet pepsi was free! Overall, would suggest going elsewhere if you want a chance to win a few of your dollars back, and enjoy yourselves.
