Eastside Cannery: Decent Deal

Good deal but I think they charge too much for the rooms considering this property is so far off the beaten track. The rooms are certainly newer and clean but one would think it would be easier to get an upgrade, especially when the hotel only has 38% occupancy, at least from a standard room to a deluxe room. Hey, we're not asking for the presidential suite at the Biltmore!

Gambling is good if you like Video Poker and Craps, although the atmosphere is a bit on the dry side. The buffet is acceptable and the One Six Sky Bar is interesting although only open on Friday and Saturday when we were there. Good happy hour drink prices and foo foo martinis to be had.

Eastside Cannery: The best on Boulder Highway

We stayed at the Eastside Cannery in December 2008 and I have reservations for April 2009. Room rates continue to be a bargain and no amenity fee is charged.

The rooms are comparatively large at 470 sq ft and nicely furnished with a 42-inch plasma TV, easy chair, writing desk, floor to ceiling windows and a small refrigerator.

The casino is relatively small, but offers all the regular casino games including full pay video poker. Without exception the personnel we encountered in the casino and hotel were very pleasant and helpful. The pool was not open in December, but from our room I could see it is the largest on Boulder Highway.

Dining options include: Snaps, a coffee shop, offering $1.99 breakfasts; Carve, a reasonably priced steakhouse; Casa Coscina, a typical Mexican eatery, We did not try the pseudo (soon to revamped) buffet nor the deli.

Other amenities include a small lounge offering very good weekend entertainment, a relatively large sports book and Pinups bar with entertainment several nights a week. The cons are limited to the absence of a parking garage and long lines at the player's club.
