FireKeepers Casino : Firekeepers review

I was expecting less but pleasantly surprised.

My games are JOB Video Poker and Blackjack and I have no opinions of other gaming options.

Outside of Nevada, good blackjack conditions are impossible to find. But at least Firekeepers (locally dubbed "Moneykeepers") offers several $5 tables - weekdays anyway. The $5 tables are usually full and hard to find a seat. I settled for a $10 table - a multideck continuous shuffle affair - at least six decks - dealer hits soft 17. I played for a half hour or so - left up $7.50

The Video poker choices were better than other Michigan casinos. Unless you are familiar with video poker, you won't understand the lingo but I found a bank of 25 cent 9-6 machines (bonus) which got most of my play.

One needs to pay attention to the pay tables - along the back wall (near poker room) there is a row of seemingly identical $.25/.50/1.00 denomination Multi game machines. But the VP JOB pay tables range from 8-5 to 9-5. You need to check each one if you are particular. If you play alongside the wife, as I do, one of you will most probably have a lesser paying machine.

If you prefer a bar top machine, you will find poorer pay tables. I didn't check each one but the most frequent was 7-5. And it didn't matter what denomination - $1 credits had same returns. Again - I didn't check every barstool.

Even after choosing the best paytable, one still needs luck. I was fortunate to basically break even during my 4 hour visit. Most play was at the $.25 level but when ahead (on house money), I would change to the dollar level.

In all, I found the place to be completely acceptable.

Motor City Casino & Hotel: mc poor

Rotten parking, small cramped gaming areas, very smokey, pricey buffet. We have gone there since it opened and they are not listening to their customers about the crowed, cramped gaming. The new areas are just terrible if you are in a wheelchair. The buffet is much worse now since they moved from the basement location. The senior breakfasts are gone, the sushi is totally poor unless you like a pound of rice with each piece. The food selection and quality is about the same as greek town but cost three times as much. MGM grand has the best buffet but is also costly. Hotel seems nice and their small restaurants are better than most. Machines are tighter than MGM or Greek Town from what I see in the payoff lights. Of course in Detroit you aren't going to find many 5 dollar tables and all are smokey. good luck

Little River Casino: Slots are pretty loose

Stayed in Manistee x 2 nights and I visited this casino twice. I played slots a long time both nights & didn't lose any money. Probably just a lucky 2 nights, but this rarely happens to me so I consider this casino as loose as any Las Vegas downtown casino. Slots are a variety of the newer slots like Wizard of Oz (ticket-in) plus older machines with coin payout. (System doesn't allow "n/a" so ignore the ratings for table games -I don't play them.) I didn't stay here, but from the outside & lobby this hotel looks very nice & I would definitely stay here if I was in the area. I only ate at the deli which was fine. Hotel rates are at least 1/2 the rates of the Four Winds Casino in New Buffalo, MI. Would actually consider a (5-6 hour) drive from NW Chicago suburbs just to stay here.

Kewadin Casino - St. Ignace: Worth a visit

Decent variety of slots & nice staff. Did very poorly on dollars & saw few winners on dollars, but did OK on the lower denomination machines. I wouldn't drive all the way from Chicago for this casino, but I was in the area to visit Mackinac Island. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

If you stay at a local St Ignace hotel/motel you can use their free shuttle & get $5 worth of gold coins which can be used on limited number of slot machines plus you will get $5 more after minimal play.

I don't play table games & didn't stay at the hotel or eat there so ignore these ratings -system doesn't allow n/a as an option.

I don't play the tables so really can't rate them. My wife and I have made this our vacation place. Just got back from a weeks stay. The players club gave us $15 each gold coin and $10 gas and $5 food everyday we stayed. This is the best paying slot place we have ever been to. It is a nice clean, small with only 800 machines. We love it. We hope to go back in Oct.

Slots playback/payback is lousy! I don't use the tables. Need many more servers on the floor.

For such a large casino, has a tiny players club booth, and can be a long wait.

Nice hotel and competent, friendly workers. Food is O.K., but drinks/food are expensive for a casino.
