Wild Rose Casino & Resort Clinton: SMOKERS PARIDISE

My wife and I stayed one night in the hotel and WISH WE HADN'T. First let me say that both my wife and I are reformed smokers. The staff at the hotel was very gracious and professional. The room was very nice and well kept.

The Casino was wonderful, small, quiet and friendly. The problem was with the ventilation system in the hotel - it simply didn't work correctly. The smell of cigarette smoke was so bad, it was difficult to breathe at times. Clothes still packed in the suitcase smelled of cigarette smoke after only a couple of hours.

We had a no smoking room but may as well have had a tent over the room, with all the smokers in the casino exhaling into that tent!! I woke up at 1:00 a.m.; sinus' bleeding, dry raspy throat and would have left except, where are you going to go at 1 a.m.? We were 2.5 hours from home. We toughed it out, ate breakfast (which was very good) and left. Unless you REALLY enjoy smelling like a stale pack of pre-smoked cigarettes, I would recommend finding a hotel room elsewhere, enjoy the casino, then leave!

Diamond Jo Casino Worth: Nice Place

Nice place. I'm glad that they expanded the casino rather than taking the profit and running. I've noticed other casinos that haven't put a dime back into it.

There is a lot of room to roam around without running into someone when you are trying to get to a machine. I like the new reel em in games they have. A few more would be nice.

I like how I get money back to play on my players card. Last time I received 2 coupons for $25 each for free play. Last time I was at Mystique I got $1 and at Waterloo I got nothing.

The $5 buffet they have on Thursdays is the best value I've seen at a casino in several years. They could probably use a few more beverage servers but I like how they have self serve stations.

I noticed they rearranged the newer side of the casino which seemed to spread out the crowd on busy days. I wouldn't mind seeing their prize bank come back.

I've been to many casinos in Iowa and I can't say the Diamond Joes machines are any tighter or looser than normal. I gamble to have something to do and I see it as a source of entertainment rather than a money making affair. I'll go back there again.

Diamond Jo Casino Worth: Worse casino in the 5 state area

The rating on this casino is low overall for a reason. I frequented this casino since the day it opened. When they first opened the machines weren't too bad, on par with other casinos. As soon as they did their expansion and hotel it went down the tubes. And now that they are in court facing a lawsuit from the Rock Gone Wild mess.... well when you see payout claims on their boards of 91.3% you can bet that whoever is in charge of posting has been soaking at the big wheel bar... 19.3% maybe.... and that's being generous! Rumor has it they have failed many past audits on payouts.

I have gone home ahead 2 times since they opened their doors, and went at least 2-3 times per month since opening day. Last time I was there I snapped my players club card in half and handed it to the worker at the counter on the way out the door. NEVER will I set foot in the dump again, I would rather drive an extra hour to a casino in Minnesota.

Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel: Tighter

The playing action of this casino has really gone downhill! What in the world happened? Many of the large progressive jackpots have been eliminated, or downsized. For example, the dollar version of Sizzling Sevens with a progressive jackpot of $3000 has been downsized to quarter version and starting jackpot of $250. Monopoly has been eliminated. Wizard of Oz has been downsized from four machines to two. The 10 times pay nickel game with its multi-thousand jackpot has been removed. If you are looking for high paying progressives, you will have to visit the High Limit Room now.

Many of the games are simply outdated. They have an over abundance of first generation video poker machines. Popular games such as Zeus and Jungle Wild are limited to two machines each, in the whole building. You are NOT going to find any new games such as WMS's Hot Hot Super Respin Series (Zeus II, Palace of Riches III, Hearts of Venice... etc). You are NOT going to find Jungle Wild II. They do however have the new video QuickPick Progressive slots.

They do have a variety of slots, but as I stated, many of these are older games. The machines could use a good cleaning. Some of the buttons do not work. Many of the games have issues accepting cash and tickets.

The overall playing action is tight. There used to be a time when I could go to Meskwaki with $300 and have it last for many hours. Many times I could bring money home. This is no longer the case for me.

I tend to go to the casino late at night. There used to be quite a crowd, even overnight. Now there are only a few cars in the parking lot at night. Perhaps it's the poor economy. Perhaps it's because gamblers are going elsewhere.

Isle of Capri Casino - Waterloo: loosen up the slots

I live in waterloo and have been to the isle several times. Believe me, its worth the 90 minute drive to go elsewhere, slots are so tight. Hundred dollars gone in thirty minutes with nothing, the average pay back on quarters is, eight quarters, (if your lucky.)

Buffet is terrible always cold and food has been sitting awhile. If you want to gamble any length of time, I recomend to go elsewhere.

Riverside Casino & Golf Resort: GREAT PLACE!

Have been here over 30 times, with and with out our tour group. This is just about as nice a place as you are going to find. Nice people, good food and a hotel as good as you will find anywhere.

There are many $1 machine that have very good paybacks. Have won many jackpots here by just playing $1 at a time. % Dosn’t go up by you playing and extra $. Stay away from machine that pay back 84 to 86% like the multi coin 1 and 2 cent machines. This only reason they are there is to make you poorer! Again this and the new Jumers in Rock Island make the others look sick.

The Monday special at the buffet rocked! Special was served, not a buffet, but lots of food and great value for the price! You just can't get a steak that good for eleven bucks! Service was great, folks were really helpful but sometimes didn't seem to know all details about their own promo.

Slots pretty comparable to casinos I've been to, really nice variety and some I haven't seen! Roulette table never open though in daytime. Disappointed, wanted to play that. Really nice facility and the adult hotel was better than some of the Vegas hotels I've been at. Great price too! Will come back for sure!

Have played at this casino ever since it opened. When the casino arrived it seemed everyone was winning for the first few years. But the last 10 years they have tightened up the machines that I have not hit one jackpot. I used to go 3 times a week there now I only go if we have company from out town that wants to see the casino. If I can I try to talk them into going to the Rock Island casino. A Much more player friendly casino.

Wild Rose Casino & Resort Clinton: New casino

The Wild Rose replaced the Mississippi Belle in Clinton, however, it is on the south-west side of town, not on the river. It's not a real large casino, but it does have many different slots. The buffet is quite good and there is a buy one, get one free for breakfast and lunch special for seniors on Mondays. Also, on Mondays, for seniors, there is $3.00 off dinner. Unfortunately, it has not been very lucky for me, but I have watched people win. It is nice and clean. They do not have a non-smoking section, but the ventilation is pretty good.
